The World Of Crystals
Diana Charabin, Gold Coast, QLD Australia
I sit in a car watching one of the most stunning surf breaks in the world. The beautiful sounds of the sea are mixed with the beat of music that synchronizes with the beat of my heart. A song called Radio Retalliation plays, ironically the lyrics sing that we are going to change your vibration. The person beside me opens his hand. I look with curiosity at the rock that he is holding tightly. He lifts it up and places it on his forehead rubbing it on his third eye. My curiosity grows.
The windows are rolled down and I can smell the ocean in the air like an exotic yet familiar spice. He hands me the stone "You can hold it" he says. I hesitantly take it, grasp it for a few seconds before I try to give it back to him.
He looks at me with a smirk..."No, no, you can hold it for longer if you want."
I hold it and I hold it and don't give it back for hours. I get lost in deep conversation and lose awareness of the rock. I massage it into my palm. I wrap it around things. I feel its surface. I wash it in the ocean and my hands hug it before I let it go back to its owner. All of a sudden realize that I have gotten completely immersed in the energy of this stone.
This is how I got introduced to the powerful world of crystals…sitting in a heavenly spot with one of the most beautiful and deeply spiritual people I have come across while discussing the complexities and simplicities of the universe. I have to laugh as I think to myself that it must have been a very powerful crystal.
As life tends to do, I start seeing crystals everywhere. At the Sunday markets I find myself getting distracted from buying fresh fruits and vegetables and instead getting lost at the stand where an old humble lady sells these beautiful stones. I walk into a store at an unfamiliar part of town and my face lights up as I see baskets and baskets of crystals everywhere. A few days later I am sitting in a café when a guy comes in and pulls out crystals the size of golf balls from his pockets. Even as I am writing this article I take a break and go on a road trip with my family. We end up at a cheesy souvenir shop off the Florida Keys where in the corner there is a huge buffet of crystals. In true American fashion, all you can fit into a bag for $4.99. I realize the Universe is sending me a message… go and learn about crystals.
Although crystals are very beautiful from a visual perspective they go far beyond their external shine. As written in “The Crystal Bible” by Judy Hall , crystals were created as the earth formed and have since changed with the metamorphosis of the planet. Because of this they contain records of the earths progress and depending on the amount of pressure they were exposed to as well as their location of growth, they can each “absorb, conserve, focus, and emit energy” in different ways.
Crystals have been known to assist in healing through their strong vibrations. There are crystals meant to cure virtually every disease and problem. Some crystals are known to open chakras and others are renowned for their ability to cleanse negativity and work through emotional problems.
Crystals can be used as tools in meditation, can be turned into jewelry, can be displayed or simply be carried around. They have the ability to nurse us back to health, to help us find balance or attract anything we please.
Since I have discovered crystals I have spent hours immersed in their beauty. I have given away many crystals to different friends for different purposes and have used them for my own personal exploration. It’s unbelievable the feelings that we can get simply by being close to these beautiful gems. It is such a fun hobby to go and search for the perfect crystal or see which one picks you.
There are many great resources on crystals but for a clear and concise guide I highly recommend Judy Hall’s book mentioned above. It features over 200 different crystals including their attributes, healing capabilities and most powerful positioning.
