Benig is a pioneer in human consciousness, pushing the boundaries of knowledge to reach for truth and inner balance. She is a Jungian psychotherapist, writer and speaker specialising in spirituality and inner healing. Author of a number of critically acclaimed books, she is a frequent speaker at conferences on childbirth, parenting, relationships and healing, and she travels internationally to lecture and run workshops.

Born and raised in County Galway, Benig was educated in Ireland and studied psychology and psychotherapy in Dublin, London and Zurich. In 1986 she established the Holistic Birth Centre in London and was regarded as a pioneer in pre and perinatal psychology in recognising the spiritual aspects of birth and how the birth experience affects the journey through life. In 1998 she wrote ‘Songs from the Womb’, a reflection on the emotional and spiritual elements of pregnancy and birth. Publication in the United States resulted in a book tour, media exposure, seminars and workshops there in the following years.

In 2004 Benig wrote ‘Reclaiming Father-the Search for Wholeness in Men, Women and Children’, a look at the formative impact of the father and his importance in early childhood. Her latest book ‘Love in a time of Broken Heart-Healing From Within’, published in 2008, charts the universal human search for love and the inner journey to healing and wholeness after heartbreak. Aside from her work as an international speaker and author, Benig writes extensively for journals and mass media on modern living from a psychological and spiritual perspective. She also manages a private practice. She loves dancing the tango, travelling and her soul home in Connemara.
